iOS 19: Anticipated Features and Updates Apple Might Introduce in Its Upcoming Operating System

As Apple gears up for the launch of iOS 19 at WWDC 2025 on Monday, a flurry of rumors has emerged. Speculations suggest a new naming convention for the operating system, the introduction of a dedicated gaming app, and even the development of a virtual health coach. This upcoming update is rumored to include a significant redesign, drawing inspiration from Apple’s Vision Pro headset. One of the most notable changes could be the renaming of Apple’s operating systems to reflect their release year instead of version numbers.

According to sources, iOS 19 might be called iOS 26, similar to the naming convention used for car models. This change would extend to other software, such as iPadOS 26 and macOS 26. In terms of design, reports indicate that iOS 19 may feature its largest overhaul since iOS 7. Visually refreshing elements, such as translucent navigation panels and circular app icons, are expected.

The Phone, Camera, and Safari apps may receive significant updates. The Phone app is rumored to allow users to merge favorite contacts, recent calls, and voicemails into one interface, while Safari might introduce a transparent address bar. A dedicated gaming app is also in the works, which will likely consolidate Apple Arcade and App Store gaming offerings in one central hub. This app may include features for achievements and leaderboards, stemming from Apple’s recent acquisition of the game studio RAC7.

Additionally, Apple is believed to be developing an AI-powered virtual health coach that provides lifestyle recommendations based on Health app data. A revamped Health app could also introduce food-tracking capabilities, allowing users to log their dietary intake. Other anticipated features include smarter battery management, AI translation capabilities in the Messages app, and the release of a Preview app for iPhone and iPad users allowing PDF annotation. However, notable advancements for Siri may be delayed, shifting the focus of the update toward design and existing Apple Intelligence improvements.

More details are expected as the event approaches.
